Denise Coupland

About

Denise Coupland is an artist with a passion for textiles, surface pattern and mark making with stitch.

Denise studied as a mature student at Nottingham Trent University where she recieved a first class B.A Hons degree in Decorative Arts in 2018, she now works from her studio in Nottinghamshire.

Originally from the Lake District she developed a love for the outdoors and the natural environment. This love of nature and natural landscapes is a continual source of inspiration for her work, from the texture and form of gnarled tree roots to the energising force and flow of water.

Using naturally dyed handmade silk paper and hand stitch Denise creates a range of unique and individual pieces of art work. These evolve organically as she responds intuitively to the painterly marks, textural surface and fragility of the silk paper adding depth, colour and highlights with hand stitched details.
